Teen and Young Adult Trauma Treatment
Why can’t I move on? How long will I feel this way?
Experiencing something traumatic can fundamentally change the way we see and experience the world.
Symptoms of trauma can feel like…
- Nothing seems real anymore
- No one understands me
- There’s no point in trying to trust anyone
- I am constantly irritated, tired, or on edge
- My memory is either terrible or way too vivid
- There is so much guilt, anger, or shame inside me
- I am having trouble sleeping or focusing
You may have tried to cope with trauma by…
- Spending more time on your phone or by yourself
- Trying to focus on other things or ignoring your feelings
- Telling yourself that it wasn’t that big of a deal
- Blaming yourself for what happened
- Lashing out at people or keeping them at arm’s length
- Avoiding certain people, places, or situations
- Putting yourself in risky or unsafe situations
More than half of all teens will experience a traumatic event. Many more will go on to experience more than one.
At Sage & Anchor we understand the seriousness of trauma, as well as the healing powers of trauma-focused treatment. While not everyone is impacted the same way by trauma, nor will everyone develop Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), there are still several ways that a person’s mood, self-esteem, and relationships can be negatively affected.
Sometimes we may think that we have put our trauma behind us, only to discover that we are still triggered by certain thoughts, feelings, or experiences. You may even find yourself getting into the same types of situations over and over again no matter how hard to want things to be different.
Let us help you truly understand how your traumatic experience(s) are impacting you in the present, so that you can begin to heal and find a new way forward.

FAQs
Can therapy help me with my trauma?
Absolutely! Trauma-focused therapies, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Structured Psychotherapy for Adolescents Responding to Chronic Stress (SPARCS) for teens, are evidence-based interventions. This means that they have been shown to be effective in reducing symptoms associated with trauma and chronic stress, so that you can learn the skills needed to heal and recover!
What happens in Trauma Treatment?
First we start off with our comprehensive clinical assessment (CCA), so that we can accurately assess your presenting trauma symptoms, provide a diagnosis, and discuss which treatment program will be best for you. Then, you will work with one of our certified clinical trauma therapists to develop the core skills needed to recognize how your current thoughts, feelings, and beliefs may be impacted by your experiences. You will then learn key skills in mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, and emotional regulation, while practicing relaxation and grounding techniques, so that you can recover and reclaim your life.
